The World Continuing Education Alliance (WCEA) has partnered with Sanofi’s Global Health Unit (GHU) to train healthcare providers in the prevention, detection, screening, and management of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), Diabetes, Hypertension, and other CVDs in Africa.
Since 2023, nearly 6,000 front-line healthcare providers, including Doctors, Nurses & Midwives, Clinical Officers and Pharmacists, have been trained in 9 focal countries (Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Liberia, and Rwanda).
Leveraging WCEA’s innovative technology that works offline to ensure all healthcare professionals have easy access to high-quality, accredited education anytime, anywhere. The mission is to develop the skills and competencies so providers can provide better patient-centered care, so people live longer and healthier lives.
In our current program on Hypertension in Primary care, a blended approach was adopted. In this approach, physical trainings are held and supplemented with access to e-learning for continuity of learning and knowledge improvement assessment.
The program was put together by subject matter experts – Senior cardiologists from Uganda Heart Institute. In total, 40 participants were in attendance, comprising a mixture of nurses, clinical officers, and doctors. The Nebbi region in Uganda was selected due to a high prevalence of Hypertension, and access to CPD is difficult.
The healthcare providers took part in a 2-day in-person training workshop organized by WCEA, UHI, and the local District Health Office. It was an extremely successful event.
Subsequently, all the participants completed the 3-hour online program. The Average Pre-Test Score was 54.43%, and the Post-Test Score Was 93.07%, with a knowledge improvement of 70.98%. This emphasizes the need for continual training.
