Webinar title: Breast Cancer – Part 1: The Science of Breast Cancer: Separating Facts From Fiction
This talk aims to help the audience gain a deeper understanding of the science behind and stay up to date with the current evidence.


Speaker: Dr Naa Adorkor Aryeetey
Dr Naa Adorkor Aryeetey, BSc, MBChB, FGCP, is a Senior Specialist in Oncology and Radiotherapy at the National Centre for Radiotherapy & Nuclear Medicine, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana. She graduated from the University of Ghana Medical School in 2008 and completed specialist training with the Ghana College of Physicians & Surgeons in 2015. She is a fellow of the same college. Dr Aryeetey focuses on adult solid cancers—especially breast, gastro-intestinal and genitourinary tumours—and is a committed advocate for multidisciplinary care in Ghana and Africa. She has contributed to peer-reviewed research and public education initiatives that strengthen oncology services across the region. She is a board member of the faculty of oncology and radiotherapy of the Ghana College of Physicians and an adjunct lecturer at the faculty of oncology of the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwifery. She is a member of several local and international oncology societies and is the current vice president of the Breast Society of Ghana.
Objectives:
1. Discuss the Epidemiology of Breast Cancer in Africa
To describe the incidence, trends, and unique characteristics of breast cancer within the African context, and to explore the underlying factors contributing to differences observed compared to global patterns.
2. Strengthen Scientific Understanding of Breast Cancer Pathophysiology
To update clinicians on the molecular and pathological basis of breast cancer, with emphasis on recent insights into risk factors, genetic predisposition, disease subtypes, and progression.
3. Enhance Early Detection and Diagnosis
To improve clinicians’ competence in early detection techniques through screening, imaging, and clinical evaluation, and to discuss multidisciplinary approaches to effective management and patient outcomes.
