Webinar Title: Advancing Research Skills in Pharmacy Practice

The Pharmaceutical Society of Malawi (PHASOM) will host a research dissemination conference slated for 7th to 9th October 2025.

Day 1 – Research Proposal Writing: This lecture aims to equip participants with skills for conceptualising and structuring high-quality research proposals, which is a critical foundation for academic and professional research.

Objectives:

  1. Introduce the key components of a research proposal.
  2. Highlight common pitfalls in proposal writing and how to avoid them.
  3. Share strategies for aligning research proposals with funding and academic requirements.
  4. Provide practical examples from pharmacy and health sciences.


Speaker: Associate Professor F. Khuluza

Felix is a registered pharmacist, health economist, pharmaceutical supply specialist and pharmaceutical analyst. He has a PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Malawi and a Master of Health Economics from the University of Queensland-Australia. He has over 10 years of experience in researching the Quality of Medicines in Malawi and has been engaged by the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority in reviewing and drafting laws and regulations related to pharmacy in Malawi. Felix is resolute in finding solutions to substandard and falsified medicines in low- and middle-income countries in order to contribute towards better health for the poor.

Day 2 – Manuscript Writing: The webinar will emphasise equipping participants with the skills to prepare and publish scholarly manuscripts, ensuring the research findings are effectively disseminated to wider audiences.

Objectives:

  1. Outline the structure of a high-quality research manuscript.
  2. Guide on selecting appropriate journals for publication.
  3. Discuss common challenges in manuscript preparation and submission.
  4. Share practical tips for improving manuscript acceptance rates.

Speaker: Dr Francis Chiumia, PhD

Francis Chiumia, PhD, is a registered pharmacist, pharmacovigilance scientist and pharmacometrician with a passion for the utilisation of real-world data for improving medicine safety, patient care and public health. He currently serves as a lecturer in pharmacy at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences.

Day 3 – Presentation and Dissemination of Research Projects and Publications
