Venous thromboembolism (VTE) remains a major challenge in oncology and women’s health, with significant impact on patient safety, treatment outcomes, and healthcare systems. This webinar brings together leading experts to discuss evidence-based strategies, updated guidelines, and institutional quality improvement initiatives aimed at improving VTE prevention, diagnosis, and management across diverse clinical settings.

Session 1: Updates on VTE Management – Duration: 35 minutes
Prof. James Baligeh Walter Russell, Professor of Medicine and Consultant Cardiologist, Deputy Vice Chancellor, College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, University of Sierra Leone.

Session 2: Updates on VTE Management in Cancer related VTE – Duration: 20 minutes
Prof. Damas Dukundane, Medical Oncologist, King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda.
Dr. Dukundane will provide an overview of cancer-associated thrombosis, including definitions, pathophysiology, clinical burden, and updated guideline-based recommendations for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

Session 3: Updates on VTE Management in Obstetrics and Gynecology – Duration: 20 minutes | Includes polling questions
Assoc. Prof. Alfred Osoti, University of Nairobi / University of Washington.
Prof. Osoti will review VTE management in pregnancy and gynecological care, highlighting clinical guidelines, preventive strategies, and treatment approaches to improve maternal outcomes.

Session 4: The VTE Safety Zone Program: A Quality Improvement Initiative at Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam – Duration: 30 minutes | Includes polling questions
Prof. Athar Ali, Aga Khan University Medical College & Aga Khan Hospital, Tanzania.
Prof. Ali will present a hospital-wide quality improvement project designed to reduce VTE incidence and enhance patient safety, sharing lessons learned from implementation, monitoring, and strategies for broader institutional adoption.
