Enhancing Midwifery Practice for Improved Preeclampsia Outcomes in Low-Resource Settings

Hosted & Sponsored by:

Webinar title: Enhancing Midwifery Practice for Improved Preeclampsia Outcomes in Low-Resource Settings
Preeclampsia remains one of the leading causes of maternal and perinatal mortality, especially in low-resource settings. We will explore the evolving evidence and best practices in the prevention, early detection, and management of hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, focusing on the midwife’s central role. The session highlights how midwives can provide woman-centred, relational care while staying clinically confident in the management of preeclampsia and eclampsia. It aims to strengthen knowledge and skills across the continuum of care, from early screening to postpartum follow-up.

Speaker: Dr. Isabella Garti
Dr Isabella Garti is a midwifery researcher with expertise in preeclampsia care, preservice midwifery education, strengthening health systems and health service redesign. Isabella currently co-leads the development of a Birthing on Country Toolkit to help maternity services in Australia build and expand culturally safe care. She’s also leading a Gates Foundation–funded sub-award to digitise preservice midwifery education in Nigeria, creating innovative tools for the next generation of midwives. Whether working in Australia or abroad, Isabella is all about improving outcomes for mothers and babies through collaboration, innovation, and education.

Objectives:
