Webinar title: From Symptoms to Solutions: A Practical Approach to Allergic Rhinitis Management

This presentation provides a comprehensive, evidence-based overview of upper respiratory conditions with a focus on allergic rhinitis. It begins with a foundational understanding of the anatomy and physiological function of the upper respiratory tract, including the role of mucosal barriers, cilia, and the immune system in protecting against environmental triggers.

The session then explores the burden, classification, and pathophysiology of allergic rhinitis, highlighting the role of environmental factors such as allergens and air pollution in symptom exacerbation.

Building on this, the talk provides a practical, guideline-aligned approach to diagnosis and management, emphasizing individualized care, patient impact, and evidence-based treatment strategies.

Overall, the presentation aims to equip healthcare professionals with the clinical knowledge and practical tools required to effectively assess and manage patients presenting with common respiratory symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, and rhinorrhoea.

Objectives:

  1. To understand the anatomy and physiological function of the upper respiratory tract.  Including the role of nasal passages, mucous membranes, and immune defenses in protecting against pathogens and allergens
  2. To describe the burden and clinical presentation of allergic rhinitis. Including symptom patterns, severity classification, and impact on quality of life
  3. To explain the pathophysiology of allergic rhinitis. Covering IgE-mediated inflammation and the interaction between allergens, immune response, and environmental triggers such as air pollution.
  4. To differentiate between types of allergic rhinitis and key triggers. Including seasonal vs perennial forms and the role of indoor and outdoor allergens.
  5. To apply evidence-based management strategies for allergic rhinitis. Including guideline-based treatment approaches (e.g., intranasal corticosteroids), and the importance of individualized, patient-centered care.
