Introduction to WHO Labour Care Guide

The World Health Organization launched the Intrapartum Care recommendations for a positive childbirth experience in 2018; which recommended major changes in labour monitoring based on latest high-quality evidence. This has necessitated the development of the WHO Labour Care Guide (“WHO Next generation Partograph’) to replace the traditional partograph for monitoring of labour.

In recognition of their key role in providing labour and delivery services, WHO AFRO, UNICEF and UNFPA East and Southern Africa Region is inviting all Nurses and Midwives to a special webinar series to introduce the labour care guide (WHO LCG) and orient on its use in maternity settings.

The webinar will be facilitated by a team of scientists and Epidemiologists from the World Health Organization, Maternal and Perinatal Health Unit in the Department of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Research at the World Health Organization (Geneva, Switzerland).

Webinar Objectives:

  1. Orient Nurses and midwives on the WHO Labour Care guide, how it links to the WHO Intrapartum care recommendations, how to use it
  2. Orient participants on the key processes for introducing the LCG into Maternity Units in AFRO Countries
  3. Experience Sharing by midwives who have used the WHO LCG
