Webinar title: Mastering Breastfeeding Techniques
This session equips healthcare providers with evidence-based knowledge and practical skills to support effective breastfeeding. The session will cover breastfeeding physiology, positioning and latch techniques, maternal and infant cues, and how to manage common breastfeeding challenges. Designed for both clinical and community settings, this session highlights the critical role nurses play in promoting exclusive breastfeeding and improving maternal-child health outcomes.


Speaker: Mr Thomas Ng’ambwa
Thomas Ng’ambwa is a Nurse Lecturer at the University of Kabianga with over 8 years of experience in medical-surgical nursing, clinical instruction, and health research. He holds a Master’s degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing and is pursuing a PhD focused on nurse-led education for chronic disease management. Thomas has authored several peer-reviewed publications and secured multiple research grants. His expertise spans adult nursing, curriculum development, and community-based health education. He is a member of NNAK and KPNA and actively contributes to improving healthcare delivery through teaching, mentorship, and evidence-based practice.
Objectives:
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate proper breastfeeding positions (cradle, cross-cradle, football, side-lying, laid-back).
- Recognize & manage common breastfeeding complications, including engorgement, sore nipples, & plugged ducts.
- Deliver individualized, culturally sensitive breastfeeding support across hospital & community settings.
