Webinar title: Role of Primary Health Workers in Cervical Cancer Elimination
This webinar will explore the concept and rationale behind cervical cancer elimination, addressing both the challenges and opportunities in our region. We will also discuss the essential role Primary Health Care Workers (PHCWs) play in driving efforts to prevent and reduce the impact of this disease.


Speaker: Dr Valerian Mwenda; MBChB, M.Sc, PhD
Dr Mwenda is a medical doctor and epidemiologist, currently serving as a Senior Technical Advisor at ThinkWell. He graduated from the University of Nairobi Medical School in Kenya and completed his PhD in Health Sciences at the University of Ghent, Belgium. Dr Mwenda’s research and professional interests include health policy research, exploring how research evidence is incorporated into health policies, and how the polices are disseminated, implemented and evaluated, as well as the role health economic modelling can play in driving policy advocacy. Dr Mwenda was a Fogarty Aga Khan University Fogarty Training Program (AKUFTP) fellow, 2023/2024; where he explored the role of nationally representative surveys in tracking the country progress towards cervical cancer elimination. At ThinkWell, Dr Mwenda is leading a project on development and implementation of a national action plan for cervical cancer elimination in Kenya.
