Webinar Title: The ABCs for Navigating the Complexities of Adolescent Health and Development
Adolescence is a time of strength and growth with evolving capacities. It is also a time of vulnerability and risky behaviour that can negatively impact their health and development. This presentation addresses the issues and elucidates simple steps for supporting the health and development of adolescents.
Objectives:
- Facilitate a shared understanding of the complexities of the period of adolescence
- Describe the tensions between capacity and vulnerability of adolescents and how this affects health and development
- Explore actions to resolve the tension and ensure the health and development of adolescents
Speaker: Prof Adesegun Fatusi BSc (Ife), MBChB (Ife), MPH (Hadassah), Cert. Pop. Leadership (U. Wash), FWACP, Ph.D. (Ibadan), FNAMed
Professor of Community Medicine and Public Health, he currently chairs Nigeria’s National Adolescent Health Technical Working Group and the Advisory Board of the Global Early Adolescent Study. He is a member of the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health Technical Advisory Group for the WHO African Regional Office and the Lancet Commission on Adolescent Health. He has 102 peer-reviewed articles and 11 book chapters, with over 10,000 citations. He is the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, Ondo State. He was a Director of International Research with the Guttmacher Institute, New York and a former Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
