Webinar title: The Next Pandemic Starts on Four Legs: Lessons in One Health from the Re-emergence of Rabies
Rabies is one of the oldest and most preventable zoonotic diseases, yet it continues to claim thousands of lives each year. Beyond its direct health impact, rabies provides important lessons about the value of One Health in preventing, detecting and responding to zoonotic threats. This webinar will use rabies as a case study to explore how stronger collaboration between the human, animal and environmental health sectors can improve surveillance, preparedness and response, while highlighting practical actions that health professionals can apply in their own settings.
Speaker: Dr. Zainab Dambazau – Veterinarian/Field Epidemiologist, The One Health Messenger, Epidemiologist, Public Education
Dr Zainab Bello Dambazau is an epidemiologist, veterinarian, infectious disease modeller, and science communicator known as “The One Health Messenger.” Through her platform, she makes complex One Health issues accessible, compelling, and relevant to everyday life, with a particular focus on zoonotic diseases, outbreak preparedness, surveillance, and health security. She advocates for One Health to move beyond theory and diagrams into practical, coordinated action across human, animal, and environmental sectors. She also serves at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, contributing to national public health programmes.
