Webinar title: Treatment of Tuberculosis in Primary Health Care
Tuberculosis (TB) and leprosy disease constitute major public health problems In Africa. In addition, the social stigma associated with these diseases further compounds the problem. To combat these challenges, The Global Tuberculosis control programme has a working road map centered on demand creation, provision of early access to diagnosis and free treatment, and ensuring social re-integration of those affected by these diseases into the community.


Speaker: Dr. David Matthew
Dr David Matthew is a medical doctor and a certified clinical pharmacologist with a master’s in public health. He has sound research experience from the Center for Advanced Medical and Training, Disease Surveillance and Notification Program, and as a Lead researcher in formulating equitable and sustainable Healthcare Policy for malaria prevention and control in Kebbi state. Also, his years of working experience with the Government and humanitarian sector (NGO) have provided him with a myriad of experience in patient management, monitoring and evaluation of illness, follow-up, coordination, and supervision.
Objectives:

Cure the patient: Achieve a cure for the patient, ensuring they are free from TB symptoms and infection.

Prevent transmission: Prevent transmission of TB to others, reducing the spread of the disease in the community.

Reduce morbidity and mortality: Reduce TB-related morbidity and mortality, improving the patient’s quality of life and life expectancy.

Prevent drug resistance: Prevent the development of drug-resistant TB strains by ensuring proper treatment regimens and adherence.

Promote adherence: Promote patient adherence to TB treatment regimens, ensuring completion of the full treatment course.
