Webinar Title: Understanding Drug Interactions
This webinar has been organized to increase understanding on drug interactions. We will look at different types of drug interactions and also be able to discuss mechanisms behind these drug interactions.
Objectives:
- Define and classify the different types of drug interactions (pharmacodynamics & pharmacokinetics).
- Highlight commonly encountered drug interactions in clinical practice
- Discuss the mechanisms behind significant drug interactions and their potential clinical consequences.
- Provide practical strategies for identifying, preventing, and managing drug interactions.
- Emphasize the role of pharmacists in promoting medication safety and patient education regarding drug interactions.
Speaker: Mrs Chikhulupiliro Chimwaza Yiwombe
Chikhulupiliro Chimwaza Yiwombe is a pharmacy specialist and Antimicrobial Stewardship expert working with Ministry of Health in Malawi. She has a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honors) from the Malawi College of Medicine (now KUHES) and a Masters in Clinical Pharmacy, International Practice and Policy from University College London in the UK. She is an alumnus of the Fleming Fund Fellowship with the University of Edinburg and is a certified Surveillance Epidemiologist in AMR. She currently heads the pharmacy department at Kamuzu Central Hospital. She has carved out a dynamic career in the civil service that has seen her work in digital health systems implementation, supply chain data analytics and antimicrobial resistance.
