Family planning services are an essential component of the health system. There are various methods used for family planning. This lecture will discuss different family planning options which are available and favorable in specific settings.
Speaker: Ms Tapokera Mkandawire – Pharmacist/Reproductive Health Advocate
Tapokera Mkandawire is a pharmacist and reproductive health advocate working with Banja La Mtsogolo, a member of Marie Stopes International. She takes an active role in championing rights, and access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare services, including Family Planning and Contraception. She has also worked with VSO International to increase awareness, and advance Women’s reproductive health in rural areas of Northen Malawi. Driven by her passion for optimal health outcomes, she is committed to continuing to serve her community, ensuring access to quality pharmaceutical care and empowering individuals to live healthier, more fulfilling reproductive lives.
Objectives:
- Provide an overview of various family planning methods, including hormonal, barrier, natural, and long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs).
- Discuss the efficacy, benefits, and potential side effects of different contraceptive options.
- Highlight the role of pharmacists in counseling, educating, and supporting clients in making informed family planning decisions.
- Address common myths, misconceptions, and cultural considerations regarding family planning.
- Review recent guidelines and best practices in the provision of family planning services.
