LSTM has released a new learning path for the practitioners providing emergency surgical maternity care in Africa

We have recently launched the Advanced Comprehensive Obstetric & Anesthesia Skills Courses provided by the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine(LSTM). The new content is available on the mobile and desktop versions of the platform. All nurses and midwives with access through their organizations can take the courses and earn CPD points.

Dr. Charles Ameh, Head of LSTM’s EmOC &NC unit, said:

Improving the quality of maternal and newborn care is critical to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal targets for maternal and newborn health. A key component of this is ensuring that the skilled health providers in place are competent and confident to provide such care. The Emergency Obstetric Care and Quality of Care unit at LSTM work with partners to improve the quality of pre-service midwifery and medical education and continuous professional education systems for skilled health providers, midwifery, and medical faculty.

Whilst the provision of midwifery care has been shown to decrease maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality, partnership with competent medical teams is essential to save lives in complex situations. This course has been designed to support doctors and other providers of obstetric surgery in the provision of excellent obstetric surgical services.

To increase the reach of the educational opportunities we provide, we have partnered with the World Continuing Education Alliance (WCEA). WCEA is a social impact technology company that provides sustainable learning solutions to stakeholders in low and middle-income countries to build capacity in CPD and lifelong learning of nurses, midwives, doctors, and other cadres of health workers using technology.

If you are interested in partnering with the WCEA to ensure your usage reaches the largest network of nurses, midwives, and medical doctors in Africa, please contact us!
