Webinar Title: Getting the Green Light: How to Manage Conflict of Interest in Health Research
This talk will cover the problem of Conflict of Interest (COI) as it impacts on health research and health policy. It will provide guidance as to how to identify, manage and limit the impact of COI and share a simple toolkit to assist Research Ethics Committee members, researchers and those responsible for health research policy to address COI effectively.
Objectives:
- Participants’ proficiency to define and identify conflict of interest in health research will be enhanced.
- Participants’ skills to manage conflict of interest in the health research process will be enhanced.
- Participants will be able to identify and access resources and networks to deal with conflicts of interest when encountered.
Speaker: Prof. Leslie London
Leslie London is Head of the Division of Public Health Medicine at UCT and leads the Health and Human Rights programme in the School of Public Health. His research areas include Environmental and Occupational Health, health policy, and ethics. He serves on the steering committee of the Global Network on Governance and Conflict of Interest in Public Health (GECI-PH). He has published over 200 peer-reviewed journal articles, 32 books or book chapters, and supervised to completion more than 50 Masters and PhD students. He is a recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Public Health Association of South Africa.
