Maternal Sepsis and Amniotic Fluid Embolus: Recognition and Treatment

Hosted & Sponsored by:

Webinar title: Maternal Sepsis and Amniotic Fluid Embolus: Recognition and Treatment
This webinar focuses on two critical obstetric emergencies: maternal sepsis and amniotic fluid embolus (AFE). It aims to enhance healthcare professionals’ understanding of these life-threatening conditions by exploring their pathophysiology, risk factors, and clinical presentations. Attendees will learn to identify early warning signs, implement rapid diagnostic measures, and execute evidence-based treatment protocols to improve maternal outcomes.

Speaker: Katrina Johnson MSN/ED, RN, C-EFM, RNC-OB

  2. Identify early warning signs, symptoms, and clinical presentations of maternal sepsis and AFE.
  3. Describe the pregnancy-related differences in vital signs and laboratory values, and imaging in diagnosing these conditions.
  4. Describe emergency interventions and supportive care for AFE, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, hemodynamic stabilization, and transfusion management.
  5. Share strategies for preventing maternal sepsis through infection control, timely antibiotic prophylaxis, and monitoring high-risk pregnancies.
