The prevalence of chronic and lifestyle diseases is on the rise and unfortunately, many patients suffer from more than one at the same time. This is especially true for the elderly whose multiple long-term conditions then have to be managed with multiple medications. This presents healthcare workers with a new challenge and responsibility of prescribing many medications (polypharmacy) appropriately i.e. in the most effective and least harmful way. This CME activity seeks to make practitioners conscious of this, easily ignorable but equally consequential, manifestation and discuss possible ways of tackling it.
