WCEA Launches Innovative Learning Path for HIV Prevention: CAB-LA for PrEP

We are thrilled to announce the launch of a groundbreaking learning path on the WCEA CPD platform, in collaboration with Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University. This learning path, titled “Provider Training for Long-Acting Injectable Cabotegravir (CAB-LA) as HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP),” is a significant step forward in the global efforts to combat HIV/AIDS.

Author(s) Credentials and Background: The learning path is a result of the Reaching Impact, Saturation, and Epidemic Control (RISE) project, a global initiative funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Led by Jhpiego, the RISE program aims to achieve and maintain HIV epidemic control, fostering self-reliant and resilient health systems. This training course was made possible with support from PEPFAR through USAID’s RISE program under the cooperative agreement 7200AA19CA00003.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, learners will:

  • Understand essential information about CAB-LA for PrEP
  • Grasp CAB-LA administration and intramuscular injection technique
  • Comprehend scheduling follow-up visits, visit components and management of injection scheduling irregularities.
  • Understand counselling considerations for CAB-LA and be familiar with resources supporting PrEP method choice.
  • Gain insights into considerations for CAB-LA in pregnant or breastfeeding clients.

Description: This comprehensive toolkit equips clinicians with the knowledge to offer CAB-LA as an effective HIV prevention option. The online lessons guide learners through a series of eLearning modules, providing a deep understanding of CAB-LA and introducing a variety of resources and tools for engaging with clients. Knowledge checks after each lesson ensure understanding and downloadable tools support the practical application.
